Choose a privacy first platform, use a separate device and email, share only what’s required, enable 2FA, and request data deletion after verification.

When I had to do KYC for a crypto exchange, I changed my approach to protect privacy. I picked a platform that advertised data minimization and transparency, and I read their privacy policy first. I used a dedicated device and a separate email/phone just for that account. I gathered only the documents actually required (passport page and selfie) and avoided extra proofs I didn't need. I took the photos in good light, with no glare, and made sure my internet connection was secure (VPN on trusted network, TLS). After verification, I asked for data retention limits and deletion options and kept records of the process. I also enabled 2FA and kept a separate wallet for KYC-stage funds. If privacy matters more than speed, be ready for longer verification times or limited features.
