When I first started with crypto, I stored my seed phrase in a plain text file on my computer. Obviously not smart. One day my laptop got hacked, and I watched a thief wipe my funds within minutes. That wake-up call pushed me to change everything. I now use a hardware wallet and treat the seed as the most precious key. I backed it up on a stainless-steel seed plate (Cryptosteel-style) and wrote a few hints in a sealed metal capsule stored in a fireproof safe. No cloud copies, ever. I memorize a short passphrase that combines with the seed (a 'semantic passphrase') to create the actual wallet, so even if the seed is stolen, funds stay locked. I also split backups: two locations, different jurisdictions. I never touch seed phrases on devices connected to the internet.

After a scare, I swapped in rock-solid storage. I used to save my seed as a text file on my laptop, bad idea. Now I use a hardware wallet, keep the seed on a metal plate, and stash a copy in a safe. No cloud, no shortcuts, and I memorize a short passphrase too.
