They now insist on approved test scores, successful pre-sessional completion, or two years of recognised English-medium study, so get your evidence in early.

UCL now wants international students to prove their English either by finishing the updated pre-sessional course or by sending in one of the approved test scores before arrival, so my cousin had to get that sorted extra early this cycle.

For the new cycle they tightened the language requirement so it is no longer enough to just point to nationality, you need either an accepted test like IELTS 7.0 overall with 6.5 each component, TOEFL iBT 100, PTE Academic 67, Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency, or completion of the UCL Academic English pre-sessional programme. They also allow a waiver if you can document two full academic years of English-medium study that UCL recognises, and that proof has to be clear on your transcript. When I helped a friend apply, the tracker kept asking for that confirmation because their previous university hadn’t been on UCL’s list, so we had to chase the department for a new letter.
